Simple File Shredder - Delete files so they cant be recovered

Recently I had written about software that lets you recover deleted files from your computer. There are times when you may need to delete sensitive data so that it cannot be recovered.

Simple File Shredder is a security tool that allows you to securely delete files so that they cannot be recovered.

When a file is deleted in Windows, the OS does not actually delete it. Instead it marks the space occupied by the file as free so that new data can be written over it. The deleted file will exist in a recoverable state until it’s over-written with other data.

Simple File Shredder deletes files by scrambling the file name and over-writing the file with random bytes before deleting it. It can also securely shred the data left behind on the free space of you hard drives.

Just drag and drop the files into the program and click the Shred button or right click on a file and choose Simple File Shredder from the shell integration. The program can also be protected from misuse using a password available in the program’s options.

Hi Alfred! Just dropping my Entrecard. I’ve implemented some of your suggestions :)

Darn that ‘add 6 and 7′ gets me everytime… my comment disappears and I have to start over… grrrrrr….

Had to put that in, was getting about 80 spam comments a day.
Sorry about that

Thank you for sharing the simple file shredder.
I have been finding, purchasing old computers from thrift shops, and have been given old computers that I’m rebuilding and putting online for people who need a good computer and cannot afford to purchase them.
This looks (at least right now) like a good way to wipe away things that are of no use to start fresh, and yet retain the programs that are good to go.
wish me luck. Tommy

This is a great tip. I want to thank you for this one. Last year, I gave away one of my old Acer computers to a local school. Later, I read a report about how easily information can be recovered. I had some deleted financial information on that computer! Man, I would have loved to have gotten rid of that.
