A Quick Recent Entrecard Drops Widget
For all of you WordPress Entrecarders out there, have you ever wanted your own “Recently Dropped” widget? Been looking for one somewhere and just can’t find it? Well, there’s one built into WordPress. It’s called the RSS widget. However, it can’t really be modified and it can kind of look ugly.
That’s where KB Advanced RSS Widget comes in. This is what you need to do:
- Go to that link and download and install the plug-in. (Installing plugins is beyond the scope of this article, but there are plenty of sources for it on the Internet)
- Activate the plugin under your Plugins tab.
- Go to your Presentation Tab and then click on the Widgets sub tab. You should have a widget available now called “KB Advanced RSS 1.”
- Drag that widget to where you want it in your sidebar graphical map. Click on the lined button next to it.
- Fill out the blanks to look something like the following screen shot. However, make sure to use the link from your own Inbox RSS feed at Entrecard.
- Make sure the “Link item to Feed URL?” box is Unchecked or else it leads them to the login page at Entrecard. Also, leave the “RSS Icon URL” section blank. That gets rid of the unnecessary RSS orange box. You just want to show off the Entrecarders who drop on your site. You don’t want others to subscribe to your Inbox. Or do you? Oh, and pick your own number of cards to show. It doesn’t have to be 5.
- Feel free to play around with the fields at the bottom. The field marked as “What HTML should precede the feed?” would be a good place to throw in some stuff right before the list, such as a link directly to Entrecard
- Enjoy your new Entrecard Widget!

Didn’t know you had an Inbox RSS feed for EntreCard? Well, you do. Look for the orange button above your Inbox on Entrecard. Right-click and copy the link location.

Here is the final result, it will look different on your blog since its based on the WordPress theme and sidebar.

For blogspot blogs, go to the blogs Dashboard > Template > Page Elements
Click the Add a Page Element option on the sidebar and choose the feed widget. Enter the RSS feed URL and viola you have made your self the Recent EntreCarders widget.
